Sew with all the colours of the wind

1. June 20181. June 2018 Maren SofieLeave a comment

So, I love sewing. It has been part of my life, on and off, since I was 10-ish, and more and more in the latter years. And yet, sometimes, I don't feel like sewing or creating anything for the longest time. I have been in one of these ruts this winter, in a real desert… Continue reading Sew with all the colours of the wind

OH MY GOD! IT’S BACK!

14. May 20186. May 2018 Maren Sofie2 Comments

So, there has been more than 2 years since the last time I blogged, for a dozen different reasons. First, I had to finish my master's thesis, while stressing over whether to look for a job or continue my studies. Then, all of a sudden, I got my dream job! Just out of the blue!… Continue reading OH MY GOD! IT’S BACK!

I fell off the #modernlessmarch at the end, I’m afraid, but that doesn’t imply that I’ve been idle! I have in fact began a biiig project - a #robealafrançaise ! New video on YouTube about my clumsy research and fear of cutting into my fabric... 🖤 (link in bio)
Day 15 of @pinsent_tailoring ‘s #modernlessmarch , and word of the day is BRIGHT. I love winter, but I’m not denying that I’m looking forward to brighter, warmer days. Like the day I went picnicking in Oslo Botanical gardens with @la_duchessa_scavenius and @littlehelsneedles ! The day I brought my fine china to have tea in the park... Maybe not my brightest moment?
Day 14 of #modernlessmarch by @pinsent_tailoring , and the word is MIND. I sew to keep my mind off things that I know are unhealthy for me to focus on. It’s not an escape, I don’t think it’s wise to try and escape the real world completely, it’s more like a little holiday. And we all need those from time to time.
I’m a little late, but word 13 of @pinsent_tailoring ‘s #modernlessmarch is ACHIEVEMENT. The older I get, the better I get at celebrating my achievements and being proud of what I’ve accomplished. I have a solid education, I’ve just signed a contract for a new job, starting in August, and I have many lovely, kind, wise and interesting friends. And I have a YouTube channel! For someone who had never done a speck of editing before last January and who kind of hates watching pictures and video of herself, that’s an achievement to be proud of!
Day 12 of #modernlessmarch by @pinsent_tailoring , and the word of the day is ACCEPTANCE. So important, and yet missing in so many parts of life, in the sewing community as in other areas of life. I try to be real. I don’t always put on makeup before filming, I rarely tidy my home before taking a picture, and I want to be genuine in all I do. Will that be acceptable to all? Probably not, but you can’t live your life for others. Is it acceptable to yourself? That’s the measuring stick I’m going for.
Day 11 of #modernlessmarch , hosted by @pinsent_tailoring , and word of the day is PASTIME. I think we all have had to find some pastime the past year to avoid going absolutely crazy. Apart from sewing, and my studies which take up a fair chunk of my time, my pastimes include cuddling the cat, experimenting with weird historical food, and watching documentaries. Lots of them, especially while sewing. My favourite documentaries are the many historical farm series presented by Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn, Alex Langlands and Tom Pinfold. How about you? Do you have any favourite marie’s to watch while crafting? Finally: memes. I live for them. The stupider, the better. Preferably puns!
